Bruch's most famous works -- the Violin Concerto in G minor, Op. 26, Scottish Fantasy, Op. 46, and Kol Nidrei, Op. 47 -- have been performed and recorded frequently, but his chamber music, written during his early and late life, has suffered from neglect and loss due to early 20th century European political strife, war, and the modernist movement. Here, the Nash Ensemble offers two works from each period. The Piano Trio in C minor, Op. 5, and the String Quartet No. 2 in E major, Op. 10, are from his student years. The Piano Trio begins, uncommonly for the era, with a slow opening movement with an attacca into a playfully dancing Allegro assai.
