"Brisingr" is book 3 of 4 in the Eragon saga. To date, it has not been butchered by Hollywood the way the first book "Eragon" was
. Brisingr is "fire" in the old language, and there is plenty of it. It is also the name of Eragon's new Elven-crafted sword which becomes enveloped in magical blue flames when he speaks its name. In this volume the war against Galbatorix heats up in earnest. Eragon learns more of magic from the elves, becoming more elvish himself and learns some unsettling things about his ancestry. It is part of Paolini's irony that the humans, most of whom have no magical powers, are polytheistic, fearful, and superstitious, while the elves, who use magic for most things, are rationalists and agnostics.
There is still the tease of Eragon's mixed feelings towards the elf warrior-princess Arya. which becomes more complicated in this volume. I would strongly recommend that the books only be read in their proper sequence, or much will be lost on the reader.
