A fine album in its own right, but a real find at the budget price, this 2004 reissue of Bernard Haitink's exceptional Brahms performances with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra is one of the most satisfying offerings in the Universal Classics line. In the 1972 performance of Brahms' Symphony No. 4 in E minor, the playing is bold, muscular, and exciting, and Haitink builds great momentum with his movendo pacing.
