The second Rhino pre-rock hits CD covers the 1930s, showcasing the rise of big bands and the phasing out of novelty/comic types such as Rudy Vallee. Bing Crosby's majestic sound, as well as the orchestras of Artie Shaw, Duke Ellington, Benny Goodman and Glenn Miller are featured. Two of the least musically interesting tracks were huge hits, Vallee's "Stein Song" and "Deep Purple" by Larry Clinton and His Orchestra.
