I couldn't let the one and only review thus far stand alone and dissuade people from seeing this movie. This movie is very highly rated on both IMDB and Rotten Tomatoes. And for good reason. It is an endearing love story about a former traveling salesman (McGregor & Finney) and his adventures as a young man finding his way in the world. His devotion to his true love (Lange), his service to our country and his work which provided him the opportunities to experience life and tell it in a way that is exaggerated to be sure but there is the charm in this story. His absence and "big fish" stories form a rift between him and his son. The reluctant adult son (Crudup) returns home and tries to reconcile his relationship with the legend who is his dad. I would recommend watching it at least twice. There are so many lessons to be learned but the biggest for me was how this father created a vivid, adventure filled life out of what many would consider rather ordinary. This is not your typical Tim Burton film. As one critic put it "this is Burton's masterpiece". I wholeheartedly agree.

Big Fish
Boring!!! Here is a father and son story that is far-fetched and whimsical. The father, by repeatedly telling the same stories a thousand times, has become the stories himself. The son, at the father?s death-bed, tries very hard to get to know his father, the person beyond the stories.
The fantasy scenes and mythical scenes are ineffective though elaborate and done with attention to details. The story becomes somewhat interesting each time it comes back to ?real? after the flashbacks.
The impressive cast has done a good job, but the movie is still disappointing.
