This is a powerful interpretation of the symphony, led by a masterful conductor who was still acute in his seventies, and played by some of the best performers available in Paris at the time. The Paris Conservatoire Orchestra gives a polished reading with warm, resonant sound and with pungent reed timbres and an interesting horn vibrato that seems peculiarly French.
