The book by Ambrose, a hallowed figure in his own right, is even more riveting and engaging than the HBO series by Spielberg and Hanks. The combat sequences are described in great detail with simple understandable language which does not talk down to those of us without a military background.
To be fair, I have a personal interest in history. However, this would be a great read for anyone, whehter you have seen the HBO series or not.
