Moving on from a pair of Back to the Old Skool volumes devoted to the early-'90s rave/hardcore scene, Ministry of Sound again excelled at playing dance historian, packing 38 tracks -- every one a stone-cold classic -- into a two-disc set. While it may not make for as smooth a listen as the other Ibiza mixes out there (attention: medical waiting rooms and Muzak, Inc.), Old Skool: Ibiza does allow any dance fan a chance to hear a ton of tracks that have been turning the heads of DJs and dancers ever since the mid-'80s heyday of the Balearic style. Granted, there aren't a lot of older classics -- only Sueño Latino's dreamy, self-titled hit dates from before 1990 -- but there are quite a few from the 1992-1993 breakout (Future Sound of London's "Papua New Guinea," Felix's "Don't You Want Me," Jaydee's "Plastic Dreams"), and many more from the 1997-1998 peak of Ibiza as a haven for British youth (the proper mixes of Sneaker Pimps' "Spin Spin Sugar," Moloko's "Sing It Back," ATB's "9PM (Till I Come)," Nalin & Kane's "Beachball," and loads of others). Yes, it is very pop-slanted, but there's a good reason for every track included. ~ John Bush, Rovi
