The Bach arrangements by Ferruccio Busoni certainly show up on concert programs and recordings, but to hear an entire album of Bach played this way is not so common. There are several arrangements by Busoni included, and pianist Francesco Piemontesi emphasizes the centrality of Busoni in this tradition by adding a neo-Baroque work by Busoni himself, the not-terribly-common Toccata, BV 287. The program is mostly Bach, though, whether arranged -- by Busoni or others -- or straight, as in the case of the Italian Concerto in F major, BWV 971: even here, there are plenty of modifications to Bach's music, in the form of tempo fluctuations and offbeat accents. Piemontesi does well to frame his program with the Prelude and Fugue in E flat major, BWV 552 ("St. Anne"), as Bach himself...
