Uses introductory problems from particular applications that are easy to understand and show the reader that there is a need for a particular mathematical technique. Numerical techniques are explained from basics with an emphasis on why they work. Discusses the contexts and reasons for selection of each problem and solution method. Worked-out examples are very realistic and not contrived.

The first edition book is written positively wonderful. Hardbound or paperback it is a useful tool in conceptual understanding of Numerical Analysis and Linear Algebra techniques. It is easy to read. It has many interesting applications. An excellent reference for advanced users and a good tutorial for the beginner. A section on isocline method development would be helpful. The second edition does not exceed the first.
