Seller's Description:
None. Very Good in Good jacket. A scarce third English printing of Sergeanne Golon's 'Angelique' enclosed in the rare dust wrapper. The third impression in the English language of this bestselling French novel series by Anne Golon. In seven parts: The Marquise of Angels; Marriage on Toulouse; The Corridors of the Louvre; The Doomed Man of Notre Dame; The Court of Miracles; The Inn of the Red Mask; Versailles.  Angelique is a series of historical adventure romances following seventeenth century provincial aristocrat Angelique.  A scarce edition enclosed in its very scarce, unclipped dust wrapper. In the original publisher's full cloth binding. Externally smart with minor shelf wear, lightly bumped to head and tail of spine, faint damp marks to back strip. Dust wrapper unclipped, sound with some shelf wear, chipped to head and tail of spine with spotting internally to wraps, not affecting externals. Internally, firmly bound. Light spotting scattered to leaves. Very Good.
ANGELIQUE IS ONE OF THE BEST HISTORICAL FICTION BOOKS EVER WRITTEN AND THE SERIES CONTINUES ON FOR EIGHT MORE BOOKS EQUALLY COMPELLING. THIS SERIES SHOULD BE IN EVERY LIBRARY AS GONE WITH THE WIND IS. IT IS AMAZING TO REALIZE MY EARLY COPIES DATE BACK TO THE SEVENTIES WHEN THE PAPERBACKS COST VERY LITTLE. NOW TO HAVE AN OLDER COPY IT IS MORE. ANNE GOLON IS 89 AND IS IN THE PROCESS OF REPUBLISHING THE BOOKS AND HAVING THE ONES NEVER TRANSLATED INTO ENGLISH PUBLISHED. I HAVE BEEN WAITING OVER THIRTY YEARS FOR THIS TO HAPPEN. THE SERIES STARTS WITH ANGELIQUE AS A CHILD. HER FIRST MARRIAGE RESULTS IN HER HUSBAND BEING ACCUSED OF WITHCRAFT AND SHE GOES TO COURT WHERE KING LOUIS XIV
FINDS HIMSELF DRAWN TO HER. WRITTEN SO LONG AGO TO READ IT NOW YOU MUST FIND AS GOOD A COPY AS YOU CAN. I HAVE A READING COPY AND A BETTER COPY IN RESERVE. ANGELIQUE IS A STRONG FEMALE CHARACTER AND BECAUSE IT WAS WRITTEN SO LONG AGO BY A WOMAN THE PUBLISHER MADE ANNE ADD HER HUSBANDS NAME HENCE THE SERGEANNE . HER HUSBAND PASSED AWAY IN 1972 AND SHE HAS BEEN LIVING IN FRANCE AND FOR THE LAST TEN YEARS FIGHTING THE PUBLISHER TO REGAIN HER COPYRIGHTS. SHE HAS WON THE COURT CASE AND THAT IS WHY SHE IS FINALLY ABLE TO PUBLISH AS SHE HAD WRITTEN AND I HOPE TO SEE THIS HAPPEN SOON. A VERY INTERESTING STORY TO RESEARCH! OFTEN THE WORD EROTIC IS ATTACHED TO OLD REVIEWS BUT THOUGH ANGELIQUE IS PROMISCUOUS THERE IS ALWAYS A REASON. IT MIGHT BE LOVE OR COERCION OR SURVIVAL. TO WRITE SO MANY IN THE SERIES AND MAINTAIN THE INTEREST LEVEL FOR THE READER IS A GREAT ACCOMPLISHMENT. ANNE GOLON MAY HAVE HAD 22 MILLION BOOKS IN PRINT IN A VAST NUMBER OF COUNTRIES. TIME IS THE ONLY REASON ANNE'S NAME MAY HAVE ESCAPED ANY GENERATION OF READERS BUT ONCE YOU BECOME ACQUAINTED WITH HER FIRST BOOK YOU WILL BE HOOKED.

Ooh La La Angelique
I discovered the Angelique series of books while I was in High School and promptly fell in love. Long out of print, this series is a wonderful historical series set in 17th Century France. Angelique (the first in the series) has also been published as two books in some countries (Angélique: Marquise of the Angels and Angélique: The Road to Versailles.) In Angelique we meet Angelique, a young woman from Poitou who is married off to the mysterious Comte de Peyrac de Morens, Lord of Tolouse and who first meets Louis XIV. One warning: once you have read Angelique, you won't be satisfied until you have ready every book in this very hard-to-find series.
