That evening, John Hart went to his old neighbour, and said, "What was the name, Mr. Carraway, of that office where you say the whole thing was so safe?" "The 'Hand-in-Hand, ' and a good name it is; it makes one think of friendship, and help, and being joined together." "It is," said John Hart, "and I should like to join it." "And I'm insured for the other world as well as this," said Joe Carraway. "You don't say that; how can that be? I never heard that folk could be sure about their souls--that they could get beyond 'hoping, ' and 'thinking, ' and ' expecting, ' and ' wishing.'"
