What an enjoyable concert this is! This will be one of your favorite DVD's in your collection. The occasion was New Year's 2000. Tenor Ramon Vargas belt's out the Verdi! Read the wikipedia article on him, he's been singing since childhood, seems like a nice man. Beaming from ear to ear, he's having a good time too! But I doubt anyone is having a better time than Claudio Abbado, with his in front of front row seat for all this. Remember too that Abbado, Italian like Verdi, grew up in Milan, home of La Scala, where Abbado was music director from 1968 to 1986. He's an opera singers conductor if ever there was one. And what a pleasure to see and hear Andrea Rost, who is in such excellent control of her voice, and is beautiful to boot, no wonder we all fall in love with her. Keep a bottle(s) of champagne on hand, if ever there was a concert to raise your glass to, this is it!
