A Simple Amish Christmas by Vannetta Chapman is a sweet story. I thought the story was well-written with developed, likeable characters. I enjoyed getting to know Annie Weaver and her family along with Samuel Yoder. I was surprised, though, at how easily Annie gave up her position at the hospital. I know she missed her family, home, and community. Annieââ?¬â?¢s father had gumption. He was not going to let his accident hold him back. I enjoyed the descriptions that allowed me to visualize the characters, the homes, and the scenery. I liked learning how the Amish celebrate Christmas. Their decorations are simple but homey. Gifts made by hand make them extra special. It was interesting to learn the Amishââ?¬â?¢s approach to medicine. They prefer to see one of their own and use natural remedies versus an Englisch doctor. There is some repetition of details (Annie was happy to home, that she had been gone for three years, how Samuel irked her). One of my favorite lines is, ââ?¬Å"Secrets arenââ?¬â?¢t always bad, Annie. Unless they weigh heavy on your soulââ?¬"like the clouds pushing down over our fields.ââ?¬Â? A Simple Amish Christmas is a story that will leave you smiling. I read A Simple Amish Christmas when it was first released, and I enjoyed it just as much the second time around. A Simple Amish Christmas is a gratifying tale with an injured father, a returning daughter, secret schooling, an obdurate Amish doctor, and Christmas cheer.
