Its sole purpose is to present an abstract Of the classifica tion proposed by that respected author, together with a concise View of all the genera and species, which he intended that it should comprehend. The materials for the description Of the first four Orders have been obtained principally from Dr. Willan's publication, of which the first part of this Synopsis may be regarded as an abridgm'ent: some additional facts, however.
