I just finished reading this book. After 15 years in ATI, it's quite a revelation to hear a different, more biblical perspective on the "basic principles." The book is well written and researched. Overall, it takes a calm, balanced approach, making it easier for someone with an emotional investment in Gothard's teaching to listen to the actual arguments. There is a bit too much emphasis (in 3 chapters) on shady business dealings, which I don't think addresses the heart of Gothard's bad scriptural interpretations. I would also have liked more detail on why the authority teachings (which are the heart of his program) are not scriptural. But as a start towards debunking these amazingly misguided teachings, it's a wonderful book, and I appreciate the authors' willingness to write it and put their names behind what could be regarded as controversial statements.
