Small 4to. Black cloth, heavily blind-embossed. xvi, 617pp. Very good. Spine ever-so-slightly sunned--almost a "Near fine." A superb, tight and handsome first edition of this essential reference--PLUS this copy bears a choice autograph addition: The front flyleaf has been signed huge and bold in full in blue ink by William Treat Upton, who also adds "Washington / April, 1946." Upton (1870-1961) taught piano at Oberlin College (1893-1936), but is mainly remembered as the preeminent authority on 18th and 19th century secular music.
