The results of an international conference held at the National Academy of Sciences, Washington, DC, and the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), Gaithersburg, Maryland, held April 25-28, 1989. The conference was sponsored by NIST and the American Nuclear Society. The objective of the meeting was to bring together pioneers of the nuclear industry and other scientists and engineers to report on reminiscences of the past and on the more recent developments in fission science and technology.
