Fantastic story
I had never read anything by Stephen King, though I had seen movie adaptations of a few of his shorter works and one novel (The Stand). I'm just not into the horror genre, yet King himself has said that he doesn't consider himself a strictly horror writer. Well, this book definitely proves that contention. It is long (over 800 pages) and involved, but it is so compelling that you probably won't even notice its length. I was just 17 when JFK was killed, and like other baby-boomers, I remember exactly where I was when I heard the news, and how I wished it was a lie, and how my life changed at that moment. I am also a science fiction fan, and have read and seen my share of time travel stories, where characters go back in time to try to change the past or prevent it from being changed. 11/22/63 combines the event that occurred on that day in November of 1963 with a most unusual time travel device and wraps it in a very real story about very believable people. It is a fantastic story that you will most definitely enjoy.

ALMOST a great King novel...
I enjoyed 11/22/63, I think the premise is great, and 90% of the storyline is genuis. Obviously, as the dust jacket gives away it's about someone given the ability to change the past and what reprucussions it may have on the future, so I'm not giving anything away. But I was somewhat let down by HOW that "butterfly effect" was ultimately depicted in this story. The last 10% doesn't live up to the promise of the build up... There were SO many more interesting possibilities that could have been used, just along the political line, that would have been devestating that what King chose just seems way too "out there" - almost like it was chosen just as a "they'll never see this coming because it has no place in this story" way. Again, I liked 90% of the book and have recommended it to friends, I was just disappointed at the climax.
